One-to-one life skills

Cooking and shopping skills on the Sunshine Coast

A meal can bring several everyday skills together: choosing what to cook, planning the ingredients, shopping and following the steps in your kitchen. You can practise at a pace that suits you.

For self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. We are an unregistered provider and can't accept NDIA-managed funding.

What you could work on

Start with one meal

You might choose a simple meal you would like to make and work out what is needed. Writing a shopping list connects meal planning with the next practical step. The aim is to build a routine you can use again, rather than get through a long list of recipes.

  • Choose a meal and identify its ingredients.
  • Plan the order of the preparation steps.
  • Organise the kitchen space before starting.

Practise grocery shopping

Shopping skills can include using your list, handling money and asking for help. A trip to the shops is a chance to practise those things together in the place you will use them. You can focus on the part of shopping that matters most to you.

  • Follow a list through the shops.
  • Practise handling money for everyday purchases.
  • Ask a question when you need help finding something.

Build confidence in the kitchen

Cooking practice brings planning and doing together. You might work through a simple meal one step at a time, noticing which steps feel familiar and where you would like more practice. We work alongside you so you can build confidence doing more for yourself.

  • Practise preparing a simple meal.
  • Follow the steps in order.
  • Connect cooking with your everyday household routine.

Questions about this support

Is this a cooking class or a meal service?

This is practical, one-to-one life-skills support shaped around your goals. The focus is practising how to plan and make a meal with support alongside you.

Can cooking and shopping be part of the same goal?

Yes. Planning a meal, shopping for the ingredients and preparing it are examples of everyday activities we can work on. What you choose to practise comes from your goals and your plan.

Where can we meet?

We support adults in Maroochydore, Cotton Tree and surrounding Sunshine Coast suburbs. Meeting locations and travel arrangements are flexible and agreed individually. Not sure whether we cover your suburb? Get in touch and we'll talk it through.

Your plan and the cost of support

Our support rates are based on the current NDIS pricing schedule. We confirm your rate in writing and agree it with you before support begins.

If you're not sure how your funding is managed, or whether it can be used for this kind of support, tell us what you know and we'll work it out together.
