One-to-one life skills
Public transport and everyday travel skills
Getting to the shops, an appointment or a local activity can involve several small steps. Travel skills practice gives you a chance to work through a useful journey with support, then build confidence at your own pace.
For self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. We are an unregistered provider and can't accept NDIA-managed funding.
What you could work on
Plan a journey you want to make
You might choose a local place you would like to reach and look at how to get there by bus. Reading a timetable and planning the trip are useful skills to practise before you set out. The route comes from something you want to do in everyday life.
- Choose a destination that matters to you.
- Practise reading the bus timetable.
- Plan the steps of the journey.
Practise in the real setting
Our everyday support includes getting around and practising public transport. For example, you might practise a bus journey with Deb or Ian before trying it on your own when you feel ready. Progress is guided by your goals and the pace that works for you.
- Practise a planned journey with support.
- Build familiarity with getting to a local place.
- Ask for help when you need information.
Connect travel with everyday activities
A journey can be part of a wider goal, such as shopping from a list, keeping an appointment or joining a local activity. Practising the travel and the activity together can make the steps easier to understand. We agree meeting locations and travel arrangements individually.
- Link a journey with shopping or an appointment.
- Practise finding your way somewhere new.
- Talk through what to do when plans change.
Questions about this support
Is travel skills support a transport service?
The focus here is learning and practising how to get around, such as planning a bus trip or reading a timetable. Meeting locations and travel arrangements are agreed individually before support begins.
Do I have to travel on my own straight away?
No. We work at the pace that suits you. A journey can be practised with one of us as part of building confidence with getting around.
Where can we meet?
We support adults in Maroochydore, Cotton Tree and surrounding Sunshine Coast suburbs. Meeting locations and travel arrangements are flexible and agreed individually. Not sure whether we cover your suburb? Get in touch and we'll talk it through.
Your plan and the cost of support
Our support rates are based on the current NDIS pricing schedule. We confirm your rate in writing and agree it with you before support begins.
If you're not sure how your funding is managed, or whether it can be used for this kind of support, tell us what you know and we'll work it out together.
The limits of this support
We don't provide personal care, medication support or clinical therapy. If you need one of those supports while you're with us, an appropriate support person can come along too. We'll talk through who does what before the session, so everyone is clear and comfortable.
